You’ve probably already seen this online somewhere – after all, it’s everywhere – but I couldn’t resist posting it regardless.
For the uninitiated, this is Eduard Khil, also known as Edward Hill, but most commonly as ‘The Trololo Guy’. This is sweeping the Internet like wildfire, and being referred to as the Russian Rickroll. And it’s magnificent.
Khil has actually been tracked down and explained that the song came about due to Russian censorship meaning simple melodies were easier to sing than actual lyrics. Hence the vocalized song.
Without Khil wandering around miming and looking strange, the phenomenon wouldn’t have taken off. As it is, there are hundreds of parodies popping up as a tribute to ‘The Trololo Guy’. Of which, I’ll be featuring a couple over the next few days.
