Emmy Rossum and Sam Esmail are married. Rossum, star of Shameless, married direct Sam Esmail on East 55th Street in NYC on Sunday at the Central Synagogue. The couple, engaged in August 2015, kept the affair intimate, with many big-name stars in attendance.
Robert Downey Jr., Shanola Hampton, William H. Macy, Christian Slater, Hilary Swank and several other celebrities were in attendance.
The couple made a star exit, with the steps of the synagogue covered in white roses as they left around 7 p.m. A small crowd was alerted to the event, and gathered to see the couple on their way and give their well wishes.
The newlywed couple didn’t end the night there. They went to the Guggenheim Museum to enjoy a beautiful wedding reception with around one hundred of their closest friends and family. Rossum stunned in her Carolina Herrera gown, while the groom kept it traditional in a sharp black suit.
Herrera and Rossum worked closely during the making of the dress, which was made to meet the same style as the reception.
Vogue interviewed the actress.
“I went in, and Mrs. Herrera and I talked about silhouettes she’d done for bridal and silhouettes I’d worn before.” Rossum continued, “I knew I’d be getting married at the temple, which is quite grand, and that the reception would be at the Guggenheim, so we knew that it needed to be a dress that could hold up to that.”
The dress was described as “modern and fresh.”
Rossum decided to wear the dress to the reception too, stating: “it’s the one time that you get to wear it.”
The couple was also spotted out on the town on Friday going to dinner with friends and family. The newlywed wore a red cocktail dress to the event. The couple had been dating for two years before Esmail, nine years her senior, popped the question.
