Take one big box of fireworks, add in some food and drink, and finally sprinkle on a heady dose of nationalism. Et voila, you have the 4th of July.
Being British means the 4th of July is absolutely meaningless to me. It’s just another day of the year, where nothing major happens and I go about my normal life. But Americans, they make a party of it.
In the U.S. the 4th of July marks Independence Day, the date on the calendar when in 1776 they declared themselves independent from Great Britain. Fireworks and feating are therefore the order of the day.
This video shows one such display from the 2012 4th of July celebrations. This was shot at the Six Flags Fiesta in Texas but there were displays held across the United States. I feel left out now.
