In its latest Google Doodle, Google paid tribute to Fazlur Rahman Khan, a Bangladeshi structural engineer who pioneered new techniques for building skyscrapers.
Khan is considered the father of tubular designs for high-rises, so lots of skyscrapers owe their existence to Khan and his engineering prowess.
In terms of individual buildings, Khan designed the Sears Tower and the John Hancock Center, as well as countless other less-famous buildings.
I’ll be honest and admit I had never heard of Fazlur Rahman Khan before today. However, he was clearly an important man whose work lives on for various reasons. So, good on Google for paying tribute to him.
