FlashForward has been canceled by ABC, with the network citing poor ratings for the decision. Well thanks a bunch, as I’ve spent the last six months watching this series, and I get left wanting more?
As you can see by this video, FlashForward started off so well, with lots of potential, and a scenario that could have tapped into the popularity of Lost and other drama series with plot twists at every turn.
But ratings have dropped substantially over the course of the first series, and ABC has now canned the show. There won’t be a second season, and the first is likely to be left unresolved as shooting will have finished before this decision was taken.
I’m getting really fed up with U.S. television canceling shows in this way. Whatever happened to sticking with an idea for a while? Unfortunately, these types of shows cost big money, whereas reality TV is cheap. So expect a lot more of the latter in the years to come.
My advice to fans of FlashForward is to get hold of the novel the TV series was based on. It’s by Robert J. Sawyer, it’s very different than the TV series, but it at least has a beginning, middle, and end.
