This video shows the end of a titanic tennis match which turned into the longest grand slam women’s singles match of all time. Francesca Schiavone ended up overcoming Svetlana Kuznetsova, though it could have gone either way.
As someone who can just about walk to the end of the street before gasping for air, I think professional sportsmen and women are incredible. OK, so they get paid big bucks for what they do, but it’s still hard work.
One of the most intense sports has to be tennis, and when a match keeps on going until a winner is found it must be hellish. So I take my hat off to Francesca Schiavone and Svetlana Kuznetsova, who played for 4 hours and 44 minutes.
This was only to reach the Australian Open quarter-finals, so to win the whole thing Schiavone will have to play twice more. I’d like the money they earn but there is no way I could do what they do.
