American Made is a new movie starring Tom Cruise, Sarah Wright Olsen, and Domhnall Gleeson. And it tells the real-world (mostly) story of Barry Seal.
You may not have heard that name before, because I don’t think many people are aware of everything this random guy got up to in the 1970s and 1980s. But it’s a fascinating tale.
Without giving the whole plot away, Seal works for various paymasters, including the CIA, the DEA, and a drug cartel. Which is an interesting mix.
According to Jeremy Jahns, American Made has some pacing issues, because a lot of stuff happens in a short space of time. But overall it’s still a solid movie that’s well worth watching.
