National dishes are an odd thing, as they differ massively from country to country, and while those brought up in one country will love their own national dishes they may turn their noses up at other countries’ national dishes.
Even at Christmas.
This video shows Americans working at the U.S. Embassy in Norway eating some of the meals the average Norwegian may eat around Christmas time.
The menu includes a whole sheep’s head, fermented fish, and cured lamb. None of which sat particularly well with the American palette.
The foods that travel well are those which most people will have no qualms about eating. Like pizza, beef burgers, and fries. But fermented fish and cured lamb are destined to remain Norwegian delicacies.
