I always wondered why the recent Superman re-make wasn’t up to par. As Kevin Smith explains, his original 1997 script was scrapped while “Barbra Streisand’s gay hairdresser” turned-producer was left in charge.
The 2006 Superman was in fact produced by Jon Peters; the man also responsible for producing Will Smith’s train wreck Wild Wild West. Kevin Smith may not be one of your favorite directors, but you have to hand it to him for trying to save the franchise and “sticking it” to Hollywood once in a while.
I’m glad this particular script wasn’t used and Tim Burton saw through Jon Peter’s unprofessional dreaming. Though in today’s realm of blockbuster movie-making, I wouldn’t be surprised if Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian came out this year. There is definitely some truth to the quote “in Hollywood you fail upwards.”
