Johnny Depp has a new movie coming out, and, as always, he plays a kooky, larger-than-life, over-the-top, off-the-wall character.
Is it fair to say Depp is being typecast at this point in time?
Mortdecai stars the aforementioned Depp as a flamboyant aristocrat who gets roped into helping track down a stolen painting because he owes money to the British government.
Gwyneth Paltrow plays his wife and Paul Bettany plays his manservant, and the trio travel the world looking for this painting.
The trailer leaves me a little cold, if I’m honest. Mainly because it feels like we’ve seen all of this before. Depp plays the same basic character in every movie, and Mortdecai looks like a cross between Austin Powers and Johnny English.
