33 students at a high school in San Diego have been suspended after being filmed twerking in a video. Parents consider this is an overly harsh punishment that doesn’t fit the crime.
I wasn’t previously aware what twerking was. Now I am. All it consists of is women shaking their butts up and down, something you see in every hip-hop video.
Is it misogynistic? Sure. Should the students have taken part on school grounds and using school equipment? Clearly not. But suspending them seems overkill.
The people who actually made the video should be roundly condemned, but the ignorant girls who took part in it shouldn’t be judged too harshly.
