The Purge is a slasher horror flick masquerading as something bigger, better, and altogether smarter. Color me disappointed.
I remember seeing the buzz around this movie months ago and thinking what a great idea the story was. Unfortunately, whoever wrote The Purge seems to have abandoned the great idea and stuck to bland and insipid.
I agree with Jahns on The Purge. What a waste of a brilliant premise. The idea that all crime is legal for one night every year is the germ of a great story… turned into yet another slasher horror flick.
In the end Jahns concludes that The Purge may be a good time, if you’re drunk while watching it. One to watch on DVD rather than at the movie theater then.
