The first season of True Detective, which sees partners Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson hunting for a serial killer in Louisiana over the course of 17 years, has gained widespread critical acclaim.
However, for all of its brilliance, True Detective is exceptionally difficult to understand.
There are two main reasons for this: the strong Southern accents are impenetrable for those of us who aren’t used to hearing them regularly; the plot sometimes meanders off in a philosophical direction.
