Google Quits Mainland China (Video) | Fed Up With Privacy And Censorship Issues

Why this isn’t a bigger news story in the US is a mystery to me. Google and China have been at it for years concerning censorship of their search engine. They’ve uncovered government-sponsored attacks since 2008 and even had YouTube blocked.

But now they’ve had enough. Google will no longer hold it’s operations in mainland China and will instead reside in Hong Kong.

Given the fact that China is communist, this was bound to happen sooner or later. Things like privacy issues are always more individualistic- which are against the basic principles of communism.

It’s really too bad that this sort of setback has to occur in 2010. I imagine that Google has just lost billions of dollars in potential profit by making this decision.
