If you’re the Prime Minister of Great Britain, a day before the final leaders’ debate, and a week before the election itself, it’s probably best to remove the microphone from your lapel before laying into the voter you’ve just been talking to. Are you listening, Gordon Brown?
Gordon Brown, current leader of the Labour Party, spoke to a voter in Rochdale this morning. Which is standard practice during an election.
However, after getting in his car, he called the encounter “a disaster” and labeled the 66-year-old woman “a bigoted woman” after she questioned him on immigration from Eastern Europe. All of which was caught on mic by Sky News.
Brown made a mistake, a big one. But far too much is being made of it. And actually, he answered the immigration question anyway, stating that just as many Brits emigrate within Europe as the other way around. Stop the traffic one way and we’ll have to stop it the other way as well.
I find it strange that this incident occurred the day after I posted a video mocking David Cameron. It’s as though I’m going to have to stick to impartiality whether I want to or not. With that in mind, I wonder what Nick Clegg will get up to tomorrow?
