Ambam the silverback gorilla isn’t like other apes. This one, who lives at an animal park in Kent, England, walks around like he’s human.
We know that we share 95 percent of our DNA with gorillas, making them our closest cousins on Earth, and it’s likely our evolutionary paths crossed somewhere along the line.
However, to see one walking around like a human male is a little freaky. Ambam has a proper swagger, so much so you can imagine him walking down the street towards you.
No one seems to know how or why this particular gorilla has learned to walk in this way, but the question has to be whether the other gorillas living with Ambam will follow suit.
If they do then it’s surely only a few generations until Planet of the Apes becomes a possibility. Now that’s scary.
