There are two reasons I like this video. 1. I draws attention to a question of grammar that I hadn’t even picked up on, and gives examples of famous people exhibiting it. 2. It doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Is it ever correct to use the word “is” twice in a row? This video explains the answer. But not before revealing that the problem of the incorrect use of “is-is” has now reached epidemic proportions.
Personally, I’ve always been very good at spelling but not so hot on grammar… as regular visitors to WebTVHub will no doubt have noticed. However, I don’t think I’ve ever used “is-is” incorrectly as Simon Cowell and Barack Obama have.
The video ends with the perfect answer to grammar police everywhere – it doesn’t matter all that much. There are a lot worse things going on in the world than a misplaced “is” or an incorrect verb agreement. So, stick. That… in,, your pipe. and smoke it it.
