“Light as a feather, strong as an ox.”
I was so glad when I stumbled upon this video. I remember using this exact same trick as a kid with great results.
I can’t give any scientific explanation as to why this trick works, but it does. Maybe it has to do with mind over matter, or maybe people just try harder the second time. In junior high, my friends and I repeatedly used this trick to impress any adult and it almost always worked (provided that they weren’t too overweight).
The chanting part of the video may seem a but superstitious and ridiculous, but I assure you it’s the most important part. Also, using a chair with no armrests is vital. The narrator suggests that you perform the trick with “open-minded” people, however, I used to do it with skeptical peers for a greater effect.
And before you ask, it doesn’t work for other inanimate objects. I must have tried a hundred times, but big screen TV’s and couches never seemed to respond to “light as a feather, strong as an ox.”
