Today is Star Wars Day. Why? Purely because the date (May 4) gives Star Wars fans the perfect excuse to utter the immortal line (and terrible pun) “May the fourth be with you”. Which will likely mean nothing to non-Star Wars fans.
In the Star Wars movies, the force is the universal energy that binds us all and which the Jedi learn to harness.”May the force be with you” becomes “May the fourth be with you.” I told you it was a terrible pun.
This video is the most fitting I could find to celebrate the 2009 Star Wars Day. It shows the bloopers which occurred on the set of the original trilogy back in the 1970s and early 1980s.
Back then, special effects were somewhat more innocent and well, less special than they are these days. So we get to see Darth Vader catching a blaster the wrong way round and stormtroopers falling over one another.
Does it take away from the magic? Probably, but who cares, especially after George Lucas went and messed up the series with the second trilogy. Enjoy Star Wars Day, and remember to go easy on your Wookie.
