The History Channel has remade Roots, the important and iconic TV miniseries from 1977. This new version tells the same story, but targets a new audience.
The original Roots miniseries was based on Alex Haley’s Roots: The Saga of an American Family. It gained huge audiences, and won numerous awards.
Both versions of Roots tell the story of slavery through the eyes of one family, with Kunta Kinte starting life in Africa, only to be shipped to Colonial America.
This video shows the trailer for Roots 2016, which stars Roman Armstrong, Emayatzy Corinealdi, and Laurence Fishburne. Let’s hope this version of the story has as big an impact as the original.
