This video shows the opening credits to the original Hawaii Five-O, complete with legendary theme song and iconic breaking wave. And it’s in honor of James MacArthur who has sadly died at the age of 72.
Hawaii Five-O originally ran from 1968 to 1980, and MacArthur appeared throughout the run except for the pilot episode and the final season, quitting because he’d become bored with the show.
MacArthur played Detective Dan Williams, also known as Danny and Danno. The latter name was used in the best-known catchphrase of the series, “Book ’em, Danno!”
MacArthur will be most-remembered for Hawaii Five-O but also appeared in several movies including The Swiss Family Robinson and Hang ‘Em High. He died of natural causes surrounded by his family at his home in Florida.
