Westerns are back in vogue, with the Coen Brothers’ True Grit proving there was still a desire to see stories from this period told on the big screen. And now a new breed of western drama is hitting the small screen.
Hell On Wheels is the name of the show, and it tells the story of the traveling town which grew up around the building of the railroad across America. Because it was close to being Hell On Wheels.
The show stars Anson Mount as a former soldier seeking revenge, Common as a freed slave, and Colm Meaney as the real-life railroad tycoon Thomas Durant.
Hell On Wheels is set to debut on November 6, 2011. And with AMC’s reputation for quality drama I’m looking forward to it. There Will Be Blood meets Red Dead Redemption? Yes please.
