When I was at school, way back in the day, sports were just something we did after school. It very rarely got competitive. I’m guessing things are slightly different in the States than they are in the UK…
This video shows a fight breaking out and then lasting over three minutes at a high school basketball game between G.W. Carver and Valley. The game, and therefore the consequent riot, took place at the Alabama State University Acadome.
The fight began after an incident happened between Valley’s Enrique Florence and Carver’s Roquez Johnson. The benches then became involved, before the crowd in the stands also waded in. The game was abandoned and the police were called.
Despite the brutality of the fight, no-one was seriously injured, and only 10 people were arrested at the scene. Seriously, was it worth it? Over a high school basketball game? I’m just glad I’m British, a nation who likes being the underdog and takes losing on the chin.
