There has been a trend of late for people to film soldiers returning home from long stints abroad only to be welcomed by their dogs. Their canine pets are so ecstatically happy to see them their whole bodies wag in excitement.

This spoof video clip shows how one pet cat reacts when its owner returns from a 6 month call of duty. It hardly moves, just looking straight through the guy before turning away and settling down for a nap.
This is very true to life, as I have been away from my cat for two months only to return and immediately get asked for food. Either cats are incapable of love, or they have very short memories.
