I’m happy my dad is my dad, and not Will Smith. But in terms of getting a leg up in the entertainment industry it certainly wouldn’t have hurt to have a father as famous as the rapper/actor/all-round good guy.
As this song, I Wish My Dad Was Will Smith, demonstrates.
What I find hilarious is that Will Smith, his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, and the two kids they’ve had together, Jaden and Willow, don’t think there’s even a hint of nepotism going on here. Which is laughable, quite frankly.
Do they all really believe Jaden would have been a big-time movie star at the age of 12, or that Willow would have been a successful pop singer at the age of 10 if Will Smith wasn’t their father?
This song, a spoof on I Whip My Hair Back and Forth, therefore acts as both a funny spoof and a truism about the nature of Willow (and Jaden’s fame). Which makes it genius in my book.
