Google always pulls out all the stops for April Fools Day, and it’s done so again for 2013. Alongside the Google Nose prank, YouTube has announced that it is “ready to select a winner.”
The joke is that YouTube isn’t, as most people assumed, a video-sharing service. Instead, it’s been one contest lasting eight years; the sole purpose of the site being to find the best video in the world.
The best bit of the whole video is when the creators of some of the most iconic YouTube videos from recent years are interviewed and asked about their strategies for winning.
For those who believe this, and who don’t think it’s an April Fool, well, be prepared to bid farewell to YouTube, as it’s shutting up shop. Worry not… it’ll return in 2023.
