HitchBOT is, or more accurately, was, a dustbin-shaped robot in need of friendly drivers willing to take him from A to B.
He found them as part of a social experiment in Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands. But he lasted less than two weeks in the USA before being beaten up and left for dead.
Sure, it’s only a dumb robot, but it’s a robot designed to test how helpful people are, and Philadelphia has just proved America isn’t that friendly after all.
