As much as I love Robert Downey Jr. I cannot see his plea for Mel Gibson to be forgiven getting a positive reaction. Sorry Iron Man, but this one is even beyond your powers.
Downey Jr. may have been a bad boy but he didn’t have a litany of complaints lodged against him which not only includes alcohol abuse but also sexism, racism, anti-antisemitism, homophobia, DUI offenses, and domestic violence.
So there is a huge difference between Downey Jr. being forgiven by Hollywood and Gibson being forgiven by Hollywood. Especially as Gibson still doesn’t seem to have learned his lesson.
Gibson was a good actor and reasonable director for a time. But that’s been and gone. I personally have no time for him and will never go see another one of his movies. And I’m clearly not alone.
