Reality star Honey Boo Boo has put the pageant world in her rearview mirror. According to her mother “Mama” June Shannon, Honey (real name Alana Thompson) simply doesn’t have time to compete in pageants anymore.
“We’re done,” Shannon tells In Touch magazine. “We haven’t done a pageant for a while, because we’re so busy with our show (TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo) and school and life in general.”
Honey Boo Boo first rose to fame as one of the subjects of TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras, which takes a look at pint-size beauty queens and their overzealous parents. The cable network developed a spin-off show for the 7-year-old and her colorful Georgia family, which includes her newlywed parents, three teen sisters and infant niece.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has been a ratings and pop culture hit, leading to a line of branded products and a recently released book.
Shannon says Honey Boo Boo, like any modern celeb, is trying to grow her brand and pageants just aren’t in the equation.
