In this demonstration from TEDGobal 2009, engineer Michael Pritchard can be seen doing the unthinkable- he converts filthy toxic water into clean drinkable water in a matter of seconds
One the necessities of life, no doubt, is water. While some people complain about the uncleanliness of tap water, others around the world are dying from bacteria and viruses that have infected their water supply. With the Lifesaver filters, this problem can finally be eliminated.
Bacteria like Tuberculosis, viruses like Polio, and even HIV are all less than 200 nanometers in size. The problem with this, of course, is that most water filters only filter out things up to 200nm. Although not a common occurrence, if HIV-infected blood were to find itself into a bucket of water, the consequences would be devastating.
By designing a portable filter that purifies up to 15nm. a real solution to the water crisis has finally been made real. The only problem now is getting government funding.
