You may have received an email or been sent a link via social network which ends with the image seen in the video above. It’s being described as a human/dog hybrid and part of some strange cross breeding experiment gone wrong.
But it isn’t. In fact, as you may have realized from the title, it’s actually a work of art. It was produced by Australian artist Patricia Piccinini, and was displayed during a show in 2003.
There’s no doubt it’s a creepy image but then that’s the idea. Piccinini was inspired to create the work by the ongoing experiments to combine human and animal genes. And this, I guess, is what could happen if those experiments continue.
I don’t know quite what aspect makes this freaky – the skin tone and texture, the weird piglike faces, or the little human-style bums – but even knowing it’s art and not real doesn’t make it any less gross.
