This video shows Iliza Shlesinger, winner of Last Comic Standing, doing a stand-up routine about many subjects but starting with being totally disinterested in hearing about other people’s aspirations. I couldn’t agree more.
Shlesinger is one of the finest up-and-coming comedians around in the U.S. right now, which is how she came to win Last Comic Standing, the equivalent of American Idol for comedians.
When she won, she became not only the first female to do so but also the youngest, which has caused some jealousy amongst her fellow contestants. They are all currently on tour together and she told Howard Stern that the guys with her refuse to talk to her because she had the audacity to beat them.
Making a sweeping stereotype here but I generally find men make funnier stand-ups. In the UK at least there is a dearth of funny females on the circuit. At least America has Sarah Silverman and now Iliza Shlesinger.
