You’ve probably heard of Pepe the Frog by now, but do you know who Pepe actually is?
Contrary to popular belief, Pepe the Frog isn’t Donald Trump’s presidential running mate. Nor is he the next incarnation of Hitler.
Pepe the Frog is just a cartoon frog.
As this video explains, Pepe the Frog started life as an innocent frog in a 2005 cartoon called Boy’s Club.
Then the Internet got hold of Pepe, and used him for their own ends. Much more recently he has become associated with the alt-right, and dressed up to look like a Nazi.
This has led to the Anti Defamation League labeling Pepe the Frog as a hate symbol. Which is pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
