While gender shouldn’t have any bearing on the hiring and firing of people, there are still careers that women struggle to be accepted into.
Professional sports is one such career, which is why the San Antonio Spurs hiring Becky Hammon as their assistant coach is big news.
Hammon isn’t exactly new to basketball, having played in the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) for the past 14 years.
Hammon isn’t the first female to be hired onto an NBA coaching staff — Lisa Boyer beat her to it — she is the first full-time, salaried female assistant coach. Which is awesome, if not well overdue.
