Giant pandas are cute, cuddly, and often considered to be vegetarians. That’s not actually the case, as this video proves.
This is footage of a panda in Pingwu County, in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. It’s chewing on an animal bone, which isn’t anything like a bamboo cane that is the usual fayre for pandas.
The fact is that bamboos make up around 99 percent of a panda’s diet, leaving one percent for other types of grass, leaves, fruit, and even meat on occasion.
This makes me wonder why we don’t try and change the panda’s diet so that it’s not so reliant on bamboo. That may be simplifying things but it is the only way we’ll be able to save these majestic creatures from extinction.
