Last night saw American Idol‘s contestants and judges joined by various celebrities and singers to hold the annual Idol Gives Back night, which seeks to use the show to raise money for good causes and highlight the plight of people around the world.
One of the people who appeared was Annie Lennox, former lead singer of Eurythmics. She wore a t-shirt on stage with “HIV Positive” emblazoned across the chest. Which had led many people to wonder whether she is actually HIV Positive.
She isn’t, thank God. Instead, as she explains in this video from last year, the t-shirt is her way of showing support for those less fortunate who have been diagnosed with the illness.
What the t-shirt does is beg the question about the wearer, which invokes debate, and brings the subject out of the shadows and once again in to people’s minds. Which has to be a good thing, right? It’s certainly clever.
