You have probably seen that video of a woman walking the streets of New York for 10 hours by now. It shows her being bombarded by men, complimenting her, asking her out, and generally acting like dicks.
However, is this as big a problem as Hollaback! would have us all believe? This lady, who calls herself the Factual Feminist doesn’t think so.
Some of these men are clearly assholes who acted outside of the scope of what’s acceptable. They should be ashamed of themselves. But some of what is described in the original video as harassment seems harmless.
There have been attempts to replicate this video in other cities, and none have shown anywhere near the level of attention the girl gets in New York. So it’s possible this is a more specific problem than is being suggested.
