The end of the world could be nigh, with the Mayan prophecy that everybody has been talking about for at least the last 12 months meant to be coming to pass tomorrow (Dec. 21).
Will it do so? Will the world blink out of existence? Or is the whole thing a load of old bunkum.
It’s bunkum, of course. The date does represent the end of a cycle in the the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, but that doesn’t mean the world is going to end.
In fact, many scholars suggest that the Mayans would have considered this date a positive one, being the start of a new era for humanity, with a some sort of spiritual awakening likely to occur.
The reality is likely to be neither of these theories. Dec. 21, 2012 is just another day, and Dec. 22, 2012 will not only happen but be very similar to the one before.
Still, this is a good song.
