J.K. Rowling has announced a new novel. Titled The Casual Vacancy, it sounds like a light-hearted village drama with a darkly comic twist.
I agree with some of the things this guy says: the title is dull, and it’s certainly not what I expected. After all this is Rowling’s follow-up to the Harry Potter series, and it needs to be great to live up to expectations.
However, despite the obvious connection to Harry Potter this has to be treated on its own merit. I don’t want to see references to that other world in this book. Been there, done that.
The Casual Vacancy is due to be released in September, and I will be picking up a copy. If it sucks then it sucks, but Rowling certainly knows how to tell a story.
