The MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night had many highlights but the moment that has caused more copy to be written and opinions to be given than any other is when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for ‘Best Female Video’.
Kanye has now apologized for his outburst, which saw him completely diss the young country singer by implying Beyonce should have won the award for Single Ladies. Jay Leno gave him the opportunity to say sorry and he took it.
What Kanye did, stealing the microphone from Swift to have his unwanted say on the winner, was an example of complete douchebaggery. And no mistake. But it takes a big person to apologize for a mistake and I applaud him for taking that step.
I actually felt a little sorry for Kanye when Leno asked him what his mother, who passed away last year, would have said. Wasn’t that a little insensitive of Jay? Especially when everyone knows how hard Kanye took his mother’s death.
