Yesterday was a historic day in Australia, as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologized to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Stolen Generation.
Kevin’s only been in the top job for a few months now, but in that short time he managed to do what John Howard could never do. He said those two little words: I’m sorry.
The stolen generation really was a dirty mark on Aussie history. It’s hard to believe now that indigenous children were removed from their homes and raised in white families because the government of the day thought it was the best thing.
It happened long ago, but the scars still run deep. How moving to see the indigenous people crying in the gallery and crowding the lawns of Parliament House.
Such an eloquent apology can only serve to further unite Australians and build a stronger nation. Well done Kevin Rudd for being man enough to deliver it.
