This month MSN and Endemol UK (the creators of Beyond The Rave) decided to make their answer to NBC’s Gemini Division web series. No, it doesn’t have Rosario Dawson, but it uses the same green screen technology and is in the same sci-fi genre.
What it lacks, however, is to be interesting.
The lead is played by David Schofield, who you may recognize from movies like Gladiator and Pirates of The Caribbean. He plays a scientist who works at the European Organization for Nuclear Research communicating to a girl from 50 years in the future after a disaster has happened.
Where’s The Action?
While most sci-fi web series focus on some sort of action, the majority of these webisodes just contain Schofield snuggling to breathe and completing mundane tasks like fixing a leak or opening a window. Even after I watched the 3 episodes released, I felt let down by the lack of any other characters or movement.
Since the series ends at episode 10, it’s hard to imagine that this will get any better. Earlier this year, the newspaper the Guardian UK reported ‘Krill’ took a team of 50 people 6 months so make. Could they really be talking about the same series?
Krill Trailer
From a quick glance at this trailer, one would expect a series similar to the Saw movies or Lost, but this is unfortunately not the case. Like most MSN web series, you’ll need to download and install the Microsoft Silverlight plugin to enjoy HD playback. As for other viewers with less compatible systems, you can watch the series on YouTube here.
