Actress Leah Remini says she has “heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response” she has received in light of her leaving the Church of Scientology.
“I wish to share my sincere and heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming positive response I have received from the media, my colleagues, and from fans around the world. I am truly grateful and thankful for all your support,” she said to People magazine.
“The King of Queens” star told radio host Howard Stern in May 2001, “I’ve been a Scientologist for half my life.”
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Remini parted ways with the church “after criticizing its treatment of followers and the leadership of David Miscavige.”
According to the report, “she allegedly was subjected to forced interrogations and underwent ‘thought modification’ sessions.”
A spokesperson for the Church of Scientology told the Reporter in a statement: “The Church respects the privacy of parishioners and has no comment about any individual Church member.”
