Today (Feb. 21) is Presidents Day in the U.S. It’s the day when all American citizens are meant to honor the presidents that have ruled over them. The bad ones as well as the good ones.
This video shows all of the presidents of the United States in chronological order from 1 – 44. It begins with George Washington in 1789 and ends with Barack Obama in the present day.
Presidents Day is actually a rather recent invention. Until the mid-1980s the federal holiday was actually known as Washington’s Birthday and commemorated the birth of the first president of the U.S.A. Lincoln’s Birthday was also celebrated.
It strikes me that the United States has too many holidays. It certainly has more than we here in the U.K. have. But maybe I’m just jealous, especially as we used to own you. Only joking.
