Live Ball Drop 2010 Video | Welcoming In The New Year In Times Square, New York

Where did you spend New Year? With the crowds and cost of going out, an increasing number of people are staying in and watching the celebrations on the TV, or their computer.

This video shows the moment 2010 arrived in America, with the ball dropping in Times Square, New York City.

Not being American, I don’t quite understand why the U.S. using the image of a ball dropping to usher in the New Year. In the U.K, we count it down using Big Ben, which surely makes more sense.

However, an estimated one million people attend the Times Square event, with an additional estimated one billion watching it on television. So it’s clearly an important part of marking the passing from one year to the next.

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2010.
