Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now out in movie theaters, and garnering rave reviews from fans and critics alike. I have seen it, and I loved it, even though it is essentially a remake of A New Hope.
However, it turns out that the new trilogy of films has been planned for decades, and Luke Skywalker was always set to return.
We know because this video shows Mark Hamill discussing the possibility of reprising his role as Luke way back in 1983. And George Lucas predicted he’d make a comeback in around 2011.
OK, so Lucas ended up selling the franchise to Disney, and The Force Awakens was released in 2015 rather than 2011, but it’s still a pretty accurate prediction.
