Forbes unveiled its highest paid actors list for this year, revealing that even in 2017, men are paid more than women in Hollywood.
Actor Mark Wahlberg topped the list, bringing in $68 million for the films Daddy’s Home 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight.
Following closely behind Wahlberg is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who earned $65 million. Vin Diesel came in third at $54.5 million.
Adam Sandler and Jackie Chan earned $50.5 million and $49 million respectively.
Less than a week ago, Forbes unveiled its highest paid actress list. Emma Stone topped that list, earning just $26 million.
Stone, who won Best-Actress for her role in La La Land, earned $40 million less than Wahlberg, who had a role in the lowest-grossing Transformers film to date.
Stone’s earnings wouldn’t have even put her in the top 10 on Forbes’ highest-paid actors list. E!News points out that Akshay Kumar, who came in 10th on the list, earned $35.5 million, nearly $10 million more than Emma Stone.
A quarter of the actors on Forbes’ list are from outside the U.S. Three stars are from Bollywood: Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Kahn.
Chris Hemsworth, from Australia, took the 11th spot on the list, earning $31.5 million.
One-fifth of the list is comprised of newcomers, which include: Jeremy Renner, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo and Ryan Gosling. Ruffalo and Renner have the Avengers film to thank for pushing them onto this list.
The top 10 actors on the list brought in $488.5 million total, while the top 10 earning actresses brought in just $172.5 million combined.
Forbes says the disparity comes down to roles. A 2016 study shows that women make up just 28.7% of all speaking roles in films. Only one quarter of the roles given to women are for characters over the age of 40.
