Endemol, the company behind traditional TV programmes Deal or No Deal and Big Brother, has teamed up with video sharing site Metacafe to produce a new late night game show which will air exclusively online.
Buzzed will be a quiz show for people in bars and nightclubs, who will answer trivia questions on their way out of these establishments. Cue lots of drunken guesses.
The questions will range from pop culture, to general knowledge, and will be asked in an impromptu fashion in an attempt to catch the contestant out.
There will be a cash prize for every question answered correctly, and in a move reminiscent of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, the contestant will be able to drunk dial a friend for help with one question.
According to Business Wire, Erick Hachenburg, CEO of Metacafe said:
“More people are turning to the Internet for entertainment, enjoying a ‘media snack’ whenever and wherever they’re in the mood for a break.”
“Buzzed is a great example of original short-form video content that puts the power of the Internet to good use. It’s interactive, engaging and entertaining – delivering value to our viewers and sponsors alike.”
The show is now in pre-production, and is scheduled to start airing on Metacafe in the Spring.
The ongoing writers strike seems to having a definite effect on all forms of television, with companies now looking towards the web for new concepts. Whether Buzzed will be successful is another matter entirely
