This is the short speech Mayor Mia Love of Saratoga Springs, Utah, gave at the Republican National Convention. It caused a stir for a number of reasons.
Love is seeking to become the first African-American female congresswoman, and good luck to her. Unfortunately she faces bigotry from within her own party, this speech being made on the same day attendees were dismissed for throwing peanuts at a black camerawoman while making racist remarks.
As for her speech, most countries have farmers, a military, an Olympic team, and yes, children. So how they equate to living the American dream, I have no idea. That’s assuming the “American dream” still exists anyway.
The world has moved on, drawn closer together by the Internet and the global economy that now exists. And yet the GOP harp on about some idealized vision of the U.S. circa 1954.
