Everyone is entitled to their political view, no matter how strongly others may disagree with it. And this video shows what happens when two political extremists – Michael Moore for the left and Sean Hannity for the right – go head to head.
Interestingly, after watching this, I’m guessing that your political views will determine who you think won this debate. All an interview of this kind does is entrench people further in what they already believe.
But two points stand out for me.
When Hannity reveals the supposed footage of a hospital in Cuba starting at 8:10. Yes it’s dirty and messy and not fit for humans to be treated in. Which is why it’s clearly disused, abandoned, not a hospital any more. But brilliantly, the clip then shows two patients (neither of which look Cuban) in their hospital beds before flicking back to the original footage. Whether that cut was already in place or whether it was inserted by a Fox News editor isn’t clear but it’s so badly done as to be laughable.
Then there is the discussion of the British NHS. Hannity revels in reading out headlines from British newspapers criticizing the NHS. But so what? Sure, the NHS isn’t perfect and there are problems to overcome. But at least it constitutes free healthcare for all so that if we get sick we don’t have to worry about being able to afford to get treated.
